Question to the Readers: Ingredients
ByWhat was the most unusual or hard to find ingredient that you had to find for that recipe you just had to make?
For me, it’s a toss between Cajeta (goat’s milk caramel) or Tapioca Flour for some upcoming recipes. Thankfully I was able to locate these ingredients at MexGrocer.com (who gives cash back by the way) and Whole Foods that just opened here in Plymouth Meeting, PA.

What a great question! I’m actually a great believer in substituting: from the mundane – oregano for marjoram – to the sublime – wild mushrooms for huitlacoche. That way, even if I can’t find something, I can still get a vague idea of the dish.

Goat’s milk caramel sounds awful only because I hate goat cheese, goat milk, goat anything. However, I think goats themselves are adorable.
Sorry I do not have a hard to find ingredient because I don’t really cook. But I do bake. Well, actually there was that one Christmas when no grocery store in the world seemed to carry cherry chips for my Cherry Mash Bars.
Just really dropping in to let you know that Noodles is doing much better & is not throwing up anymore. He gets his liver re-tested in 3 weeks. Say a little prayer for Noodles or send good thoughts out into the universe.

I could never find broccoli rabe anywhere. Broccolini, yes, but not the former. And kaffir lime leaves for my Tom Kha soup – though I think I could find them at an Asian grocery. Sometimes you gotta go to a specialty store.
