Archive for Colin Cowie

I can’t stress enough how great Colin Cowie’s products are.  The “international arbitrar of style” strikes again with this Flavor Infusing Glass Pitcher for the Spring/Summer on HSN.com.

He gave one great idea of infusing your vodkas, rums and tequilas with fresh fruits, spices, herbs and hibiscus flowers.

Needless to say, this was ordered quickly.  I have some Meyer lemons that need to infuse in some vodka ;)

What would you infuse your cocktails with?

Colin Cowie’s New Summer Line for HSN…

Posted by: Lys | Comments (4)

Colin Cowie debuted his Spring/Summer line for HSN today and, I have to confess, I spent quite a bit of time with my jaw to the floor going over the products. Some of the products, I had heard about in advance but my poor wallet is screaming at me.   Thankfully I was able to get cash back from Mr. Rebates but still… eeeks!  I did, however, control myself with a couple purchases I’m still thinking about.

When it comes to entertaining, I swear by his products.  I’ve found that they are durable, beyond classic and top quality.  I’ve been more than pleased with my past purchases and when I’ve had a great experience, I tend to be brand loyal.

I splurged on his Appetizer Plates which I felt will be a great accent to my dishes that I bought from his line previously.

For perfect entertaining, check out this wood and porcelain chip and dip server

and matching 3 bowl wood and porcelain server.

I was looking at this wire cloche plate cover for outdoor grilling. I’m not a fan of bugs to say the least and this looks like it might help…

Finally, check out this three part server – love love LOVE!  Not only would this be great on the countertop but also in the bathroom.

Colin also has been showcasing his new gourmet food line. The first to garner my attention: the Spice Collection from Urban Accents and, well, you all know I’m a sucker for anything spice related.

Spice Collection

Couple that with his Urban Accents All Natural Dryglaze Spice Rub Collection and, yes, I’m a goner. Check out that Bombay Blitz. Expect a more detailed review when I get them in.

HSN has some great deals and if what you are looking for is sold out, rest assured, they are getting more in. He’s already hinted that his fall line is going to be phenomenal so be prepared.  Also, the price point on all of the items is reasonable and even some deals (like the plates which I bought a couple months ago and are now marked down to $30.  ARG!)

To quote him earlier today “The best investment in life is to invest in family and friends.”  So very true…

Using the “Good Dishes”…

Posted by: Lys | Comments (6)

Remember when you were growing up and you were told “No, don’t use those dishes – we’re using the ‘Good Dishes’” and you handled them with the utmost care.   I have to confess, I never invested in “Good Dishes” and, yes, my dinnerware was a bit worse for wear – especially when I would have to photograph everything.  The plates I had were from when I first moved here to Orlando about 6 years ago, well worn, scratched and worse for wear.

There are a few dish sets that I have been eyeing but after seeing Colin Cowie’s Square Dinnerware set, I had to have it.  It is simple, elegant and modern – and stands up to my crazy life.

HSN did a great job in packaging the set.  Not one broken dish anywhere.  It’s well made, durable and looks so chic.  I feel like I’ve finally got my first set of “Grown-Up Dishes”.   I can’t even begin to tell you how pleased I am with the purchase.  Now here’s where it stands up to the true test – it makes even takeout look fab.

Takeout

Cooking ‘Round The Web…

Posted by: Lys | Comments (6)

Happy New Year Everyone!

Well, I’m still playing catch up from my travels , work and the holidays , but here are some great posts that I found and thought y’all might enjoy.

Bren over at FlanBoyant Eats is running one heck of a contest – the prizes are *to die for*. What are you waiting for – go enter and then come back. I’ll wait. Promise! Congrats Bren on your one year blogiversary!!

Fabulously Broke In The City has a wonderful post on what to do with all those cords and how to organize them so you can clear the chaos.

Marc Vetri, one of my fave chefs, talks about his new book Il Viaggo del Vetri in the Philly Daily News

Predo over at Spartacus Wore A Skirt has a great recipe for Ice Cream + French Toast – fabulous for those kiddies who want Ice Cream for breakfast (c’mon – be nice, tis the holiday season!)

Jaden at Steamy Kitchen has a fabulous recipe for those soirees with her Coconut Shrimp with Sweet Chili Mayo

I picked up a few tips for food photography from The Constables’ Larder and Vegan Yum Yum. Yes, that’s one of my New Years Resolutions – learn to shoot better photographs!

Judy over at No Fear Entertaining did a fab Cilantro Pesto that I’m going to attempt for Super Bowl Soiree Central (that is if my E-A-G-L-E-S get a shot – wouldn’t that be grand!)

Erin Cooks! has a great recipe for Raised Donuts (time to break in that bread machine…) Dunkin Who? Donuts What?

Susan over at Stickey, Gooey, Creamy, Chewy kicked butt in this month’s Daring Baker’s challenge with a Buche de Noel. First of all, my hat is off to these DBs. I would be curled up in a fetal position over some of the Challenges they do. Secondly – you must read what she went through to accomplish this challenge. I state for the record – I am a cook NOT a baker. She’s a baker and an amazing one at that!

Sarah over at Pink Shoe Diaries has a dish that will brighten up the winter blahs – her Asparagus and Pea Risotto.

SpecktraBeauty (shush) has found some a recipe for some Truffles that are good for you… seriously.

Napastyle guru, Michael Chiarello, opened his new restaurant, Bottega. Check out some great photos and insight from the event.

And, of course, I saved one of my most faves for last – a video where Colin Cowie teaches you how his kitchen is organized. Have I told y’all I adore this man – seriously. And that kitchen – to die for. At least we know he uses his Electrolux appliances. Another spokesperson might not have the cooking chops to fully appreciate her Electrolux… jus’ saying ;) If you can, check out his other videos at Epicurious.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Colin Cowie Gets Ready For Spring…

Posted by: Lys | Comments (2)

Did anyone catch the new Colin Cowie collection on HSN.com this week?

Now, don’t sniff up in the air yet – trust me when I say that Colin Cowie is one of the premier event planners. I have some of his collection from December and I get so many compliments on it when I entertain. Colin Cowie personifies chic, elegant yet effortless entertaining. The man knows his stuff. Few people know that his book, Effortless Elegance, was one of my first inspirations (and cookbooks to my huge collection) and let’s not even talk about his tv show on WE back in the day. He’s one for creating ambiance while ensuring your guests AND you have a great time. If you haven’t checked out his new book, Colin Cowie Chic: The Guide To Life As It Should Be, you should It has so many fabulous ideas and tips.

Check out some of his summer collection that was featured this week on HSN. As I picked most of the teal/cobalt blue colors because I’m such a blue/teal freak, many also come in shades of green, clear, etc. All is mix and match and coordinate.

First one to catch my eye: His Textured Glass 15″ Serving Bowl.

The Etched Hurricane Lamp.

To light the lamps, why not check out the Color Blocked Candles.

For a little mood lighting, I love the Reversible Candle Holders.

Set of two Textured Serving Platters

Set of three Textured Glass Nesting Bowls

Set of four Glass Accent Bowls

There are so many fabulous products that, obviously, we can’t feature them all – from candles to rugs to dinnerware to linens to silverware. You can check it all out here: Colin Cowie Collection on HSN.

Now excuse me while I go click my little heart out (with cash back, of course!) Who’s ready for a little soiree?
